boy scout uniform

Unlike many troops, Troop 1490 does not have routine uniform inspections.  Instead we have a more relaxed comfortable environment and ask Scouts to where their uniform when traveling, on special occasions, and meetings when they can.   The boys are very responsive to this relaxed feel especially since they might be coming from other events to Boy Scout meetings and events and may not always have time to change.

We have 3 types of uniform dress:

Full Class A Uniform which consists of Boy Scout pants and the full Uniform shirt, Sash, and Order of the Arrow Sash.  This is worn at award ceremonies and special occasions.

Class A Uniform which consists of the Boy Scout shirt and nice jeans. (Not stained, dirty, or contain holes or tears.  This is worn for travel on camping trips and other events

Class B Uniform which consists of a T - Shirt designed and selected by the troop .  This is worn for normal events where boys will be boys, but they should be recognized as scouts in our troop.

The BSA Centennial Uniform is here!new boy scout uniform

The word is out! Design for the new boy scout uniform came out in August, 2008. The colors are pretty much the same so new uniform pieces can be transitioned as old ones are outgrown. A big difference is red shoulder loops and unit numbers are now forest green. The uniform is being promoted as more versatile and potentially wearable in the field instead of just for meetings.

See for details or this PDF file.

Placement of insignia on the uniform is important. The Uniform Inspection Sheet has insignia placement guides. Here are helpful layout images for Left Pocket and Right Pocket. There is also a Male & Female Leader Uniform Inspection Sheet

.The Scouting program in America has always included uniforms for its members and volunteers to identify members and show they are part of the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts and leaders should wear their uniforms to all patrol meetings, troop meetings, and scout outings.

The tan and green Boy Scout uniform is a well-known symbol of American scouting. All scouts in the program wear the same uniform with the major differences being the badges each scout has earned and the troop specific neckerchief.  In Troop 1490 we wear the Black Neckerchief with red lettering.

Each scout belongs to a patrol within the troop. To foster patrol identity, each patrol chooses Patrol Patch and creates a patrol flag, name, and yell.
